ABFT
Attachment Based Family Therapy

Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT) is a warm, relationship-focused therapy designed to help children, teens, and their families strengthen trust, safety, and communication. Many young people who struggle with depression, anxiety, or the effects of trauma feel disconnected from their caregivers. ABFT provides a supportive space where families can repair those bonds and learn new ways to connect.
In ABFT, the therapist guides conversations that allow both parents and children to share feelings openly, work through past hurts, and rebuild a sense of closeness. Caregivers are supported in responding with empathy and understanding, while young people learn to express themselves in ways that promote healing rather than conflict.
The goal of ABFT is to restore the parent–child relationship as a secure base, so that children and teens feel more supported, understood, and confident as they navigate life’s challenges.
